The 48th annual Symposium on the American Indian is a mix of scholarly and cultural presentations that are open to the public free of charge. Don’t miss workshops on Native American traditions, short films and an ongoing film series. NSU is proud to celebrate a century of Cherokee Nation education, as NSU was founded on the established site of the pre-statehood Cherokee National Female Seminary. The 2020 keynote speakers include Mark Trahant (Shoshone-Bannock), editor of Indian Country Today and Board Chair for Vision Maker Media; Adrienne Keene (Cherokee), Assistant Professor of American and Ethnic Studies at Brown University; and Kainoa Embernate (ʻŌiwi Hawaiʻi), founder of Hālau ʻŌlelo, an online learning school for the Hawaiian Language.
