Frosted Double Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (12 oz. package) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 ¼ cups all-purposed flour
  • ¾ tsp. baking soda
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • ½ cup (1 stick) softened butter or margarine
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup chopped nuts (optional)

Cookies:

Microwave ¾ cup morsels in small, microwave-safe bowl on high for 1 minute; stir. Microwave an additional 10-20 second intervals, stirring until smooth. Cool to room temperature.

Combine flour, baking soda and salt in a small bowl. Beat butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar and vanilla in large mixer bowl until creamy. Beat in melted chocolate and egg. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in ¾ cup morsels and nuts. Drop onto ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake in preheated oven at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 8 to 9 minutes. Let stand for 3 minutes before removing to wire rack to cool completely. Frost cookies any way you like with chocolate frosting recipe. Make 2 ½ dozen.

Chocolate frosting:

Microwave remaining ½ cup morsels and 2 tablespoons of butter in medium, microwave-safe bowl on high for 30 seconds; stir. Microwave an additional 10 to 20 second intervals, stirring until smooth. Be careful not to burn the chocolate. Add 1 ¼ cups sifted powdered sugar and 2 tablespoons milk; stir until smooth.
